AIMO was founded by Bharat Ratna Sir. M. Visvesvaraya in 1941. The organization has established itself as a body committed to Industrial progress with the motto “Prosperity through Industry” which is in line with countries objective of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. AIMO has its headquarters in Mumbai and AIMO has numerous State and Regional level boards elected biannually. AIMO has Secretariats at the headquarters and also multiple State Boards. DSB (Delhi State Board) is one of the largest territories which comprises of State of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.

Traditionally AIMO members have been from Micro, Small, Medium and Large scale industries from all over the country with diverse interests such as Engineering, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Food processing, Textile, Leather, Automobile, Steel, Cement, Electrical, Electronics and other Manufacturing industries, IT sector and Services sector Etc.

AIMO has been instrumental in creating an environment for co-operation between Central and State Government and Industry, in promoting and coordinating industrial and economic growth and has worked for serving trade, industry and the community.
